Furore as Sony flunks gamers' LittleBigPlanet levels

Did you read the EULA?

LittleBigPlanet online players are in uproar over Sony's decision to delete user-created levels if they violate the copyright clauses in the game's Ts&Cs.

The recently released title’s official online forum has become overrun with posts from gamers, each anxious to know why their lovingly crafted levels have been deleted from Sony’s servers.

One poster said: “Four out of the five levels I had posted have been moderated.” Another player claimed that his level about racing cars was deleted for no apparent reason, adding that there’s “no point in playing it anymore” if user-generated levels risk deletion.

In each case, it appears that many the deleted levels include content not owned by their creators - using pictures of Nintendo's Mario, for instance. Other levels seem to have been nixed because they contain adult and/or offensive imagery.

So far, Sony hasn't said why any specific level was culled.

User-created levels can be reported through an in-game grief tool which marks the level for review by a team of overseers. If the monitors deem the level to have violated the end-user licence agreement then it will be yanked, a Senior Community Development Manager at Sony said in a forum post.

Sony is currently reviewing the moderating system to ensure it provides better feedback on why a level was moderated, the company said.
