Samsung handset borrows U800 looks, adds extra features

Features upped, looks kept the same

Samsung has spruced up its mobile collection with the launch of a phone that’s more feature packed than the U800, but which looks almost identical to it.

Samsung's I7110: small, but fully featured

Going by the name of I7110, the phone’s based around quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge network capabilities and will hook you onto HSDPA 3G connections at up to 3.6Mb/s. It would have been nice of Samsung to increase the connection speed to 7.2Mb/s though, because the U800’s maximum 3G speed is also 3.6Mb/s.

Samsung’s given the I7110 two more megapixels than the U800, to create a meatier, five-megapixel phone camera. There’s also an external memory card slot that’ll accommodate SD cards of up to 16GB.

Video footage can be captured at up to 30f/s and reviewed on the phone’s 2.6in display. The U800 only had a 2in display, so that’s something to be thankful for if you’re swayed by the I7110.

Elsewhere on the I7110 you’ll find Bluetooth 2.0 and a USB port, while Wi-Fi is supported if you fancy surfing the web from home or work. All the standard musical options are featured too, including support for MP3 and AAC audio files.

The phone measures 118 x 52 x 13mm and has a talk time of up to 11 hours, which is slightly longer than the U800’s.

Samsung will give Russia first dibs on the phone next month, but said it will launch the talker into “other markets” soon after. A UK price hasn’t been given yet.
