Ann Summers yanks chocolate willy spread

Visitors to Ann Summers hoping to get their laughing gear round some chocolate willy spread will have to make do with a Chocolate Dick on a Stick (link NSFW) following the sex shop chain's withdrawal of a range of melamine-laced choc products.

The retailer has pulled said spread, plus "a related nipple spread and a novelty pen set" which, as the Guardian explains, contains "a chocolate-flavoured body pen".

All the offending items, imported from Chinese manufacturer Le Bang, were found to contain melamine at levels "100 times greater than limits set by the European commission". Specifically, tests showed they packed up to 259 milligrams per kilo, way over the 2.5 milligram per kilo limit.

The Food Standards Agency duly issued an alert, but described the risk as "low" and the withdrawal "precautionary". It noted: "This is a first. We've never had to put out an alert before on willy spread, chocolate-flavoured or otherwise."

Ann Summers said: "As a responsible retailer we have tested all of our chocolates and even before the FSA alert was issued had taken all relevant steps to remove the chocolate willy spread product that could be affected by this issue." ®
