Vodafone launches in-store power pods
Power to the High Street
The nightmare of your phone’s battery dying while you're out and about is no longer, because Vodafone has launched in-store charging pods.
The service lets power-hungry consumers plug their phone, MP3 player or portable games console into a lockable unit that powers up the device in return for a small fee. The units, manufactured by ChargeBox, incorporate accept a range of cables to ensure that all sorts of different gadgets can be recharged.
ChargeBox units will appear in about 30 of Vodafone’s UK stores from today, including one in Birmingham’s Bull Ring shopping centre and another at London St Pancras station. It’s worth noting that ChargeBox units have already been rolled out in a similar fashion by the London Kensington Hilton hotel and Liverpool University.
Vodafone will charge customers – of any network - £1 for a 30-minute power top-up, or £2 ($4/€3) for 90 minutes of juice.
