Sony Ericsson eyes up Android

Google-friendly Walkman en route?

Sony Ericsson has revealed that it's got its eyes on Google's Android platform, which now only powers T-Mobile’s G1 handset.

According to a report by Reuters, Dick Komiyama, President of Sony Ericsson, said at a media event in Sweden yesterday that the company is “certainly interested” in the Google-developed platform and that SE should “look at this application”.

Komiyama didn't give a firm indication as to whether or not SE is planning to launch an Android-based talker. But he admitted that although the manufacturer is “studying the opportunity”, it’s “not in a position to do this at the moment”.

When the G1 was launched earlier this week, a T-Mobile spokesman told Register Hardware that although the phone’s exclusive to the carrier's network and the world’s first phone to use Android, other manufacturers will be able to make use of the Google platform on rival phones.
