Compuware launches overseas model factory

Heading offshore for a little Q&A

Offshore applications testing is already big business, but for the client of such services there is always concern about whether they are getting the best possible mix of service level and cost.

It is, of course, the latter that has pushed many applications development operations to look abroad for testing services, but the existence of doubts about the quality of testing is a not-uncommon consequence.

In an attempt to boost the confidence of both applications developers in the quality of testing services on offer, and the testing companies in the management and services they offer, Compuware is now making its test factory quality assurance service available for the third party testing services community.

The company itself first started development on the factory some five years ago as a toolset for its own internal product development and test requirements. It has now been launched as a product in its own right.

The target is to provide a modelling environment which allows testing houses to customise and automate their quality assurance procedures while getting more management metrics from the system. The latter should allow company managements to quote project completion dates and actually meet them at a higher quality level than before.

It also tackles one of the points where doubts about offshore testing can occur - lack of communications between the testing house and developers. This is achieved by offering customer access to real time project metrics over the web. ®
