3Com flips for Wi-Fi clamshell VoIP phone
Not cheap, mind
3Com is hopping on the VoIP bandwagon, this time hoping to steal a lead over its rivals by pitching a Wi-Fi equipped clamshell device rather than the more common candybar form factor.
Prosaically called the 3Com 3108 Wireless Phone, the handset looks like a mobile phone circa 2004, but if you don't mind the pre-RAZR looks, the phone has 802.11b/g Wi-Fi on board with WPA 2-level wireless security on board.
The 3108 will work with any VoIP service that uses the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) VoIP standard.
Available now, the 3108 retails to business and enterprise customers for a whopping $415 (£220/€232) - considerably more than the better looking £156 ($293/€zz) Netgear SPH101, which we reviewed t'other week. ®
