Meteor strike caught on camera

Near miss or car advert?

Updated If this is real, it is extremely cool.

If it is a car advert, we'll cry into our beer. We can't discount the possibility that that is all it is, but we really hope this footage of a near miss meteor strike is authentic.

The video shows a group of guys hanging out in the desert, apparently watching some friends arrive in a hefty-sized pick-up truck.

As the truck rounds the corner, one guy says to another "Bro, you see that?"

"What?" his buddy replies.

The first guy points upwards where a trail of smoke is tearing across the sky, as a meteor heads towards the group.

The meteor smashes into the ground in between the truck and the group of men, in a cataclysmic explosion. The shockwave knocks them all to the floor, and we get a good view of the camera man's feet.

As the smoke from the impact clears, the truck emerges to shouts of disbelief. Which is why we will not discount the possibility that the whole thing is a car ad.

Update

Darn it. It is a fake. What a shame. Mine's a pint. Thanks to the (zillions of) Reg readers who wrote in to clarify that one for us.
