Palm 3G Euro Treo to ship 'September 2006'

Earlier than officially announced

The Vodafone-branded Euro-centric 3G Palm Treo will ship in September, Reg Hardware has learned. When the device was announced last week, Palm and Vodafone would only say the device will debut before the end of the year.

Following last week's announcement, Vodafone posted a page on its website touting the upcoming handheld's support for push email and its use of Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. The carrier will be pitching the phone at its business customers.

If Vodafone sticks to September for the launch, the new Treo - which some reports suggest will be called the 750v - will appear a year after Palm told the world it was preparing a version of its smart phone that will run Windows Mobile. Verizon duly shipped the product as the Treo 700w earlier this year.

Palm recently admitted it had now stopped shipping Treo 650s into Europe because the device is not compliant with the European Union's regulations on the reduction of hazardous substances in electronic goods. However, it said it had brought in sufficient volumes of the 650 to cover demand until the device's RoHS-compliant successor ships. ®
