BT to offer home visits for broadband installs

At a price

BT customers who'd prefer not to install their own broadband connection can now get the giant telco to do it - for a price.

It seems the monster telco is mulling the idea of charging punters around £50 a throw for a home visit.

The firm currently has around 2.5m retail broadband punters, and reckons there's a market for an engineer popping round to plug in the wires.

The home visit plan builds on a new service unveiled earlier this year that offers home users telephone support service to tackle all their IT problems.

Called BT Home IT Advisor (HITA), the helpdesk service costs £9.99 a month for help on a range of issues such as setting up broadband connections, wireless networking, identifying and removing viruses, and fixing faults. Alternatively, if customers don't want to subscribe to the service, they can stump up £25 to get help solving an individual problem. ®
