AMD prunes single-core prices by up to 19.2%

Sempron, Athlon 64 ranges rejigged

AMD has taken the opportunity present by the launch of its energy-efficient Athlon 64 and Sempron processors to prune the prices and some of the members of its existing single-core desktop chip line-ups.

So out goes the Athlon 64 4000+, for example. The 3200+ and 3500+ are still there, but they're now 12.7 per cent and 9.1 per cent cheaper, coming in at $138 and $189, respectively, from $158 and $208.

The addition of energy-efficient Semprons has pushed the old Sempron chips' prices down, by between 9.4 per cent and 19.2 per cent. In addition to the energy-efficient parts, AMD has thrown in an new old-style Sempron, the 3200+. ®
