Tiscali UK on verge of 1m broadband punters

Who cares, it's Friday...

Tiscali UK is on the verge of signing up one million broadband punters. Publishing draft consolidated results for the whole Tiscali group, it emerged that the UK operation is a mainstay for the European ISP.

For the year to the end of December the number of Tiscali UK broadband lines grew 141 per cent (547,000) to 934,000 at a time when the total broadband market grew just 52 per cent. And based on the current number of new sign-ups, a spokeswoman for the firm said Tiscali UK was within a whisker of the million mark.

The growth in broadband numbers also helped increase revenue for the UK operation. In the last 12 months Tiscali UK notched up revenues of €324.9m - that's 44 per cent of all the money generated within the entire business, which has operations in Italy, the Netherlands and Germany.

Overall, the Tiscali group increased revenues 12 per cent over the year to €736.2m, while the net loss narrowed to €12.8m from €134.2m.

At the end of December, the ISP had 4.7m active users including 1.7m ADSL punters and 360,000 unbundled lines. ®
