Power cut hits Plusnet

Site down

Sheffield-based ISP Plusnet has been hit by a power cut this afternoon that has floored its website and affected web-based services such as email.

The power failure happened at around 1pm and appeared to take out a couple of other businesses operating on the same business park. At this stage it's not known what caused the power cut.

A spokesman for the company told The Reg that internet connectivity was unaffected by today's snafu and said staff were busy working to restore services. It's hoped that everything will be up and running again later today.

Earlier this month PlusNet launched an investigation after two unrelated events led to customers losing their broadband connections. In one incident a hardware failure led to around 5,000 customers losing their broadband connection, while a separate glitch disconnected all PlusNet's 176,000 broadband punters for a couple of hours. ®
