Toshiba readies large HD Ready digital LCD TVs

Gilt-free purchase

Toshiba has earmarked April for the launch of a new line up of HD Ready LCD TVs. Despite the Picture Frame branding, they're not kitschly kitted out in gilt curlicues, but the four models in the WLT66 range do feature integrated digital TV receivers and a pair of HDMI ports.

The four models offer 32, 37, 42 and 47in screens, respectively. The two largest TVs support full 1920 x 1080p resolution and a brightness rating of 550cdpm² - the smaller screens run at 1366 x 768 and 500cdpm². The four have contrast rations of 1,200:1, 1,000:1, 800:1 and 800:1, respectively.

All four use Toshiba's Active Vision LCD image processing technology to enhance picture detail, colour, contrast and movement. They provide PAL and NTSC playback. They feature 20W RMS speakers boosted with SRS WOW 3D audio enhancement. They each have a headphone socket, too. In addition to the twin HDMI ports, the four screens feature dual SCART sockets and component video input.

Toshiba also said it would ship a pair of 1366 x 768 analogue LCD TVs in April. The 32WL66 and 37WL66 are both HD Ready and include two HDMI inputs, it said.

The company was "unable" to provide an indication as to how much all these TVs will cost. ®
