Intel to ship VT P4s on '13 November'

And a faster Celeron for Xmas

Intel will release Pentium 4 processors equipped with its Virtualisation Technology (VT) in just over two weeks' time, it has been claimed.

The P4 662 and 672 have been on the cards for a Q4 2005 launch for some time, but now a launch date has emerged, sources from among Taiwan's motherboard makers have claimed. That date is 13 November, the moles say, according to a DigiTimes report.

The two new parts match the current 660 and 670 chips, and are clocked at 3.6GHz and 3.8GHz, respectively, with the VT support indicated by the two points added to each chip's model number.

So far, Intel has only confirmed that the chips will appear as 66-something and 67-something, and that they will arrive some time in the rapidly shrinking second half of 2005.

The new P4s will be followed over a month later by the Celeron D 355, which the sources claim will ship on Christmas Day. CEO Paul Otellini in a fluffy white beard and red costume, anyone? Or maybe Dickensian attire would be more appropriate. Bah, humbug.

Intel is expected to begin shipping 'Yonah', its 65nm, dual-core Pentium M processor around about that time, in preparation for the chip's formal launch alongside notebooks based on the chip early in Q1 2006.

The 355 will cost $127, the sources said, while the 662 and 672 will set buyers back $401 and $605, respectively. ®
