AMD rolls out faster mobile processors

AMD today rolled out a handful of mobile processors, extending its Mobile Sempron and Mobile Athlon 64 product lines.

So, in comes the Mobile Athlon 64 4000+, a $382 chip aimed at "full-size notebooks", as AMD puts it. The same sort of kit is targeted by the Mobile Sempron 3300+, priced at $125.

For thin and light machines look to the Mobile Sempron 3100+ and 3300+, priced at $107 and $134, respectively.

All prices are per-processor when sold in trays of 1,000 chips.

The prices of AMD's other mobile processors remained unchanged. The chip maker last cut its prices on 1 August, in part to make room for today's launch. At the time, AMD cut the cost of most of the processors on its price list, from high-end server parts to low-end desktop chips.

The 4000+ is clocked to 2.6GHz and contains 1MB of L2 cache. The comparable Mobile Sempron 3300+ contains just 128KB of cache and is clocked to 2GHz. Its thermal parameters stretch to 62W operation. The Mobile Semprons aimed at thin'n'light machines are limited to 25W operation. The 3100+ is clocked at 1.8GHz and contains 256KB of cache; the 2GHz 3300+ has 128KB of cache.

All four CPUs support Windows XP's Enhanced Virus Protection system.®
