BT customers sign up for Pest Control

Yet Jeremy Clarkson still on our screens

BT said today that 350,000 people have signed up for its Pest Control service to block nuisance marketing calls.

The telco began pushing the service earlier this month, although the launch had to contend with the firm's ongoing corporate TV ad campaign fronted by Top Gear petrol-head and all round British braggart Jeremy Clarkson.

BT customers signing up for the The Pest Control service are automatically registered with the Telephone Preference Service, meaning they can duck the majority of unsolicited marketing calls. They also get free caller display.

The service has clearly gone down a storm, with sign-up rates now running at 25,000 per day, prompting BT’s marketers to give themselves a well-deserved pat on the back.

We presume it hasn’t even occurred to them that the bulk of subscribers have simply gotten their wires horribly crossed, and actually think they’re signing up to rid themselves of Jeremy Clarkson.®
