ATI adds digital telly to All-in-Wonder line

DVB-T support in Europe - SCART, too

ATI this week announced the latest addition to its All-in-Wonder multimedia-oriented graphics card line-up.

The PCI Express-based AIW X800 XL's core is clocked at 400MHz and the board contains 256MB of GDDR 3 graphics memory clocked to an effective 980MHz. The graphics engine contains 16 pixel processing pipelines and six vector units. The video work is shouldered by ATI's Theater 200 chip.

The card can tune into up to 125 PAL and SECAM analog TV channels in Europe, and the same number of NTSC channels for North America and elsewhere. European users get a SCART connector dongle to allow them to hook up the card to European TVs. ATI said it has also incorporated terrestrial digital TV support for the Europe-destined version of the card.

The AIW X800 XL will ship with ATI's RemoteWonder Plus remote control, the company's latest such device to operate using radio frequencies rather than infra-red, thus eliminating the need for a line of sight. The box will contain a half-price coupon for a Microsoft Media Center remote control.

ATI also said it was enabling "full support" for Windows XP Media Center with all AIWs based on the Radeon 9600 chip and up.

The AIW X800 XL will ship "later this summer" for around $399, ATI said. ®
