Norway mobile service floored - report

Human error to blame rather than rats

Some 200,000 punters in Norway were unable to use their mobile phones today after "human error" caused their service to go titsup.

The outage happened at Norway's second largest mobilephoneco - NetCom - and lasted several hours.

Human error was blamed for the incident, reports AP, after work was done at an Oslo exchange.

Earlier this week New Zealand's telecoms network in the North Island was floored after two cables were severed.

In one case, a post-hole digger damaged a fibre while engineers suspect rats might have chewed through another cable. ®
