No winding-up order for Gio Internet

So claims NetServices amid ongoing dispute

NetServices has denied reports that it has issued a winding-up notice against Gio Internet over a disputed unpaid bill. A spokesman for the Manchester-based network distributor told The Register: "A winding-up order has not been issued. However, I can confirm that NetServices have now handed over all responsibility for recovery of bad debt to our insolvency agency."

The Register understands that NetServices is exploring other ways to recover the £220,000 it claims it is owed. The current stand-off between the two companies may or may not end up with a winding-up order being issued. In a statement earlier this week NetServices said that it was pulling the plug on around 1,400 Gio Internet punters from 1 December because of "non payment of invoices by Gio Internet over the past six months".

Said NetServices md, Mark Vickers: "We have decided to terminate all Internet services for Gio Internet following advice from our lawyers and a debt recovery agency. We recognise that termination of the service will affect a significant number of both residential and business customers but we were unable to gain a satisfactory response from the company as to why they stopped paying us."

Instead, NetServices is giving those affected by the dispute the chance to switch for free to another reseller (cheapadsl.com, ycs-net.co.uk, namesco.co.uk, broadbandbob.co.uk, fast.co.uk and f1internet.co.uk) to avoid having their broadband service disconnected on 1 December.

In a statement earlier this week Gio Internet said it was "currently in dispute" with NetServices and that "contrary to recent publicity surrounding the trading position of Gio Internet, the company continues to trade as normal in the provision of dialup and ADSL services". ®
