Stressed-out Spaniards attack computers with hammers

And... relax

Stress-frazzled Spaniards are paying £40 a pop to smash technology with sledgehammers, Ananova reports. The initiative in Soria allows access to the city's main scrapyard where enraged suits vent their frustration on cars, computers and mobile phones.

The so-called "damage therapy" - known in the UK as "percussive maintenance" - is a wizard wheeze by a group of young guns who reckon that people are queueing up to give offensive kit some stick. They say that you get two hours for your money, although no-one has yet succeeded in sustaining their ire for more than half an hour.

One satisfied punter enthused: "I come after a bad day at work, I take a mobile phone, put it on the ground and smash it to bits with a single thump. You can not imagine how satisying that is."

Actually, we can, and demand this service be made available on the NHS forthwith. We further insist that any mobile phone which plays a polyphonic rendition of the Dambusters' March at full volume on a packed commuter train be immediately confiscated and made available for a bit of light "damage therapy". ®

Bootnote

Speaking of Spanish-style percussive maintenance, ta very much to reader Alex who forwarded this link at which you can see for yourself the effects of knocking ten bells out of a PC. There's a little intro showing the thing crashing halfway through editing what appears to be a, ahem, Word document, followed by a bit of Spanish invective.

You then get to punch the machine by clicking on the part which offends you most - monitor, keyboard or tower. Good, clean family fun.
