Tiscali UK blames spamfest for sluggish email

All sorted soon

Tiscali UK is blaming a "sudden increase in spamming activity" for a deterioration in its email service.

Over the last couple of weeks the ISP's email has become increasingly unreliable, with users reporting that email has taken, at best, hours to arrive. There are even reports that some email has taken up to six days to make it through.

Now, Tiscali UK says this slowdown in service was due to spammers and has taken action to ensure that the service gets back on its feet again soon.

Said Tiscali UK in a statement: "We have witnessed a sudden increase in spamming activity which has affected the email performance for some customers recently. We are currently putting in place measures to prevent spammers registering for and using our email service, but do not want to give further details at this stage as this will only play into the hands of the spammers.

"However we can assure customers that we have completed the installation of additional hardware to increase our mail handling capabilities and ensure that the impact on customers is minimised while we address the root cause." ®
