Terra Lycos attracts more paying punters

Spanish Internet outfit Terra Lycos has managed to increase the number of paying punters over the last year helping to lift revenues. By the end of March the firm, which boasts a strong presence in Spain and Latin America, had 5.3m paying punters for its Net access, communications and portal services - up 62 per cent compared to the same period last year.

The number of broadband punters grew 73 per cent on the year to 726,000 at the end of the first quarter (Q1), while the number of subscribers to its communications and portal services grew 95 per cent to 3.5m.

As a result, Q1 revenues grew 17 per cent to €134m. Of that, 42 per cent of revenues came from its access business, while advertising and e-commerce accounted for 25 per cent. The rest was made up of a range of communication and portal services. Pre-tax loss at the company fell slightly during Q1 from €55.5m to €53m.

Kim Faura, executive chairman of Terra Lycos, said the results "clearly show that we are on the right path, very focused on our clients and on profitable business segments." ®
