Sendo launches 5x zoom camera phone

Fast viewfinder, multiple picture sizes too

UK mobile phone maker Sendo unveiled its latest camera phone, the S600, this week.

The handset's digicam offers a typical 640 x 480 resolution, but improves on rival units thanks to a 5x smooth digital zoom - dubbed "Xoom" by Sendo. As usual, the phone's 16-bit colour display doubles up as the camera's viewfinder, but operates at 15 frames a second for a much more stable image and thus, Sendo claims, smoother picture taking.

Sendo S600 mobile phoneUsers can take photos in any of five pre-set picture sizes and at one of two image quality settings, including a 'night' mode. The handset features sharpness and white balance controls, and allows users to edit and apply special effects to their pictures, the company claimed.

The S600 contains 4MB of free memory for picture storage, and to hold downloaded games and ringtones. For the latter, the handset supports polyphonic playback, and incorporates Java MIDP 2.0 for gaming. The phone has a four-way navigation button.

Talk-time is two to seven hours with standby time at 200-450 hours, the manufacturer said. Oh, and the phone's cover is removable.

Sendo didn't provide a price for the handset, but it did say that the S600 will ship this coming Spring. ®
