Scottish tribunal hears mass wrongful dismissal claim
Bitterness over Convergys takeover
One of Scotland's biggest employment cases in being heard at a tribunal in Glasgow following a claim against billings system outfit TelesensKSCL.
The preliminary hearing - which kicked off yesterday and is expected to last until tomorrow - focuses on the redundancy of 220 people last year.
TelesensKSCL, which was subsequently bought by Convergys, was placed into receivership in June 2002 despite earlier assurances to employees that the company had money in the bank and two companies were interested in buying it out.
Shortly after, receivers Deloitte & Touche announced that 220 staff were to be made redundant and that workers would not be paid their last month's salary, or receive any redundancy payment.
More than 160 former employees launched legal action to recover what they say is owed to them.
That legal action is now being heard with a test case being brought by former employee Mike Cicero. If successful, employees could net more than £8 million. ®
