Prep school head snared in chat room sting

The headmaster of a posh New York City prep school has been accused of making nasty Internet advances toward teenage girls.

John Dexter, the head of Trevor Day School, faces two counts of attempting to send child porn to minors and is being held on $25,000 bail, the Associated Press reports. The man allegedly sent naughty missives and dirty pics to investigators posing online as 14- and 15-year old girls. The investigators tracked Dexter's activities in an online chat room room from June to October.

Westchester district attorney Jeanine Pirro characterized the messages as "too explicit to read".

This is the 78th arrest made by the High Technology Crimes Bureau's Undercover Internet Pedophile Stings. Dexter faces a maximum sentence of four years in a state prison.

In addition to chatting the faux teens up, Dexter is accused of trying to tempt the girls into sexual encounters. His computers at home and school are being searched.

Dexter worked at Trevor Day since 1979 but has been put on a leave of absence. He attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology and Columbia University. ®
