H&R Block adopts Athlon XP for 15,000 PC refresh

HP gig

AMD has scored a big win with a big US firm and quite rightly has issued a press release to trumpet its success.

The big US firm is H&R Block, the tax software business, which has selected Athlon XP-based HP d325s to populate 15,000 desktops. That's a big refresh by most standards, and especially sweet for AMD: hitherto, corporates, especially US corporates, have not exactly been its strongest market.

H&R Block says it's plumped for the HP d325 as a standard desktop as this cuts down the number of image changes. In other words the tech support overhead is greatly reduced.

H&R Block is already an HP, OK Compaq, house. Its previous desktop PC standard was the Compaq Evo D510, a Celeron machine, according to a company insider.

According to AMD, the update of images across the d325 and the Compaq kit requires "minimal time and effort", thanks to a combination of Nvidia's Unified Driver Architecture (UDA) and the AMD Athlon XP processor.

The H&R Block roll-out starts next month. ®
