Toshiba softens stance on e740 OS upgrade

Bowing to customer pressure?

Toshiba has offered some hope for thousands of angry e740 PDA owners that it may yet offer an upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs.

Following our initial report on the company's decision not to offer such an upgrade, a Toshiba spokeswoman said in a statement: "Toshiba is not initially offering an upgrade for the e740, but will continue to gauge demand and evaluate customer requirements." (our italics)

Toshiba's response isn't perhaps the answer e740 users are looking for, but the language used implies a certain softening of the company's stance.

And customers do seem to be requiring the upgrade. An online petition demanding that Toshiba provide the Windows Mobile 2003 update for the e740 has already scored over 3650 signatures.

The Toshiba spokeswoman reiterated that the Windows Mobile 2003 update was being made available for e750 owners who bought their handheld after 23 May. ®
