Fujitsu and Nokia team up for mobile services

Data driven from server to smartphone

Fujitsu and Nokia today announced a deal to jointly develop and market mobile enterprise services targeted at corporate clients.

The companies will develop services and packages using Nokia's range of business terminals and platforms, and tap Fujitsu's capabilities in consulting, systems integration and managed services.

Initial roll-outs of the services (which are being marketed as a way to "take advantage of mobility to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve business processes") will start immediately in the Nordic region and the UK. Fujitsu and Nokia home to expand service delivery into "selected regions of EMEA and Asia Pacific" early next year.

There ae three main strands to the packages and services the companies will sell: streamlining business processes with mobility, enabling mobile access to corporate resources, and remote working for mobile workers. Corporate apps will initially be available as an ASP service run from Fujitsu's existing service centre and accessed using Nokia's "business terminals", like the Nokia 6600 phone.

Early users include Hartwall Ltd, a Finnish brewery, soft drink producer and a member of the international Scottish & Newcastle brewing group, which has developed a mobile logistics automation system in co-operation with Fujitsu. The system allows truck drivers to enter details of pick-ups and deliveries onto Nokia 9210i Communicators. This data goes into a SAP R/3 ERP system. Automating the process in this way is helping to reduce errors and streamline the logistics process, according to said Ralf Hollmén, Sales and Logistics Director of Hartwall.

Other packages and services to be jointly developed and provided by Fujitsu and Nokia will include mobile email, personal information management (PIM) coupled with secure authentication and access, as well as customised vertical applications to meet customer demand in a variety of industries. ®
