BT Broadband price remains fixed

BT and MSN - it's about quality, not width

BT has no plans at present to cut the price of its frill-less, access only BT Broadband product following today's confirmation of a joint marketing agreement with MSN.

BT's stand on price means anyone signing up for BT Broadband (£27 a month) and MSN 8 (£6.99 a month) would be expected to pay £33.99 a month for access and content.

In comparison, AOL UK's content rich service costs just £27.99 a month.

According to a spokesman for BT this deal offers customers "premium levels" of broadband access and content.

He acknowledged that the offer was "not the cheapest" but insisted people would be paying for premium services from trusted brands.

For its part, MSN believes this model of separating access and content will prove enticing for consumers. It claims the new 'Bring Your Own Access' (BYOA) industry model being offered through MSN 8 in the UK marks a break from the traditional 'all in' bundled offering from competitors.

Ben Verwayeen, CEO of BT, also reckons this partnership will prove to be a "big hit with our customers". Of course, those dead keen on MSN 8 might be tempted to save money and opt instead for signing up with a cheaper service provider.

The new partnership is to be backed by a £2.5m marketing campaign. ®
