RIP ET Global Solutions

Need to learn from the past

So, bargain basement broadband ISP, ET Global Solutions, has gone titsup.com.

If there is any comfort to be taken from this sorry situation it is that only an estimated 30-40 people paid for a service they didn't receive.

In total, it's understood that 160 signed up for the sub £20 a month service since it was launched in the summer.

It could have been so much worse.

Gio - an ISP that provided billing and some connectivity services to ET Global Solutions - has said that it will offer these customers an ADSL service.

It is currently contacting those who got their fingers burnt to see if they wish to take up the offer.

But according to some in the industry the demise of ET Global Solutions is likely to damage consumer confidence, with the consequences likely to be felt for some time to come.

Worryingly, this self-same thing happened only recently as ISPs tried to offer flat rate narrowband access.

Many which claimed to offer unmetered Net access, before the introduction of sustainable wholesale deals, have now vanished. Many, many Net users lost out financially in their search for affordable Net access.

With that experience so fresh in our minds, it would be a shame if the whole sorry episode were to be repeated for broadband. ®
