S Korea handed ‘broadband World Cup’

It's worse than you think

The bunnies at Telewest are over the moon with their latest trick to link broadband with the up and coming World Cup.

You'll never believe it, but they've only gone and bleedin' presented a South Korean Government minister with his own "World Cup" in recognition of the country's place as the global leader in high speed Net access.

Apparently, they pitched up at the South Korean Embassy in London this morning and handed over a gold statuette, which features a computer, to Minister Il-Soo Kim.

The cheeky blighters even got the Minister to endorse the cableco with a neat quote about how he hopes "Telewest Broadband will continue to play a key role in providing the British public with the benefits of the modern information age via its broadband services".

Talk about balls.

So far, this has to be the best/worst (depends on your viewpoint) example of spinning an IT story with some dodgy link to the World Cup. Mind you, there's still plenty of time for someone to trump this stun...heaven help us. ®
