Safedoor not core, shuts doors

Insecuricor

Securicor has shut its Safedoor secure shopping portal with immediate effect. The company decided that the business was not core, and although it had good potential, required investment "which could be better utilised elsewhere within the group".

Safedoor had a number of prospective purchasers, but none of the interest led to a substantive offer, Securicor says. There are 26 employees, who are now subject to a 30-day search to try, find them other jobs with the group.

Safedoor has taken its web site offline, replacing it with a message announcing the closure of the business. The company said that the security of personal information would not be compromised by its closure.

Safedoor launched in December 2000. At the time we called it the Naked Capitalist's answer to Anonymizer. In effect it was an online shopping mall which let allow users to buy goods without their passing credit card details to online stores. ®
