UK Ltd flocks online

Oftel SME test

Sixty three per cent of Britain's small and medium-sized businesses are connected to the Internet, up from 55 per cent in May.

SMEs (the E stands for enterprise) are cranking up their involvement with telephonyh, all around, according to Oftel's latest usage survey.

Around two-thirds use a mobile phone, just over a third use more than one fixed telecoms supplier and
one in three use an unmetered Internet access package.
And over one third of medium businesses (employing between 51 and 250) are now using leased lines. And approaching three in five medium size businesses now connect to the Internet using an alternative to the traditional telephone network, such as ISDN and DSL, Oftel reports.

The telecoms regulator operates an online advice service designed to help make SMEs make informed telecoms purchasing decisions here.

If you want to delve into the usage figures, Oftel has thoughtfully published three surveys today.
