AOL UK has pulled its PC-based text messaging service ahead of the launch of "enhanced" services due out sometime later in the year.
A notice on its AOL Mobile section reads: "Service Currently Unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. AOL looks forward to providing you with a new service in the near future. Stay tuned for more details."
So what exactly is going on here and why has AOL UK pulled this free service that enabled AOL users to send text messages to mobile phone users from their PC?
Unfortunately, we haven't got a clue. A spokesman for AOL UK declined to comment on its decision to pull the service except to say that it was necessary in order to carry out "back-end configuration".
New mobile services are due to be launched some time in the future but AOL UK declined to say what they'll be, when they'll be available or whether they'll cost anything. ®
