Smile goes ApeSh*t bananas

E-bankers go Brand Bonkers

The Co-op, the supermarket chain where poor people and socialists shop, is to plug Smile, the online bank, by putting stickers featuring the logo and URL on all the bananas it sells.

Smile is the Net banking brand of the Co-operative Bank, a sister organisation to the retail chain, which prides itself on an ethical approach to banking.

As a member of the Co-operative movement "we're not only serious about your money, but also about things like honesty, openness and security", the company trumpets on its web site.

But clearly, Smile is less concerned about visual pollution and brand-bombing. And Bananas.

This fruit is, apparently "the ideal advertising medium because people throw away the peel, so the label is not irritating.. but it's there in front of you," a Smile PR bunny told the Daily Telegraph.

Meanwhile, the Rochdale Pioneers, founders of the Co-operative Movement, are spinning in their graves. ®
