Queen goes tea-towel e-commerce crazy

Liz 2 knows a good thing when she sees it

The Queen has got over the shock of losing money once in a dotcom venture and got into e-commerce on her new Balmoral site.

Balmoral Castle, if you don't know, is Liz 2's residence way up in Scotland - and one of the most beautiful places in the UK it is too. She spends plenty a lot of time up there and most holidays. However, if you wondered what the Royal Family got up to while at Balmoral, the goods for sale give an interesting insight.

Because unless you want to drink whisky or take hot things out the oven, you won't find much. In fact, over half the goods on offer concern themselves exclusively with whisky. Which we think is an excellent thing. There's also a Balmoral whisky although we can't confirm that the Castle has its own still. Apart from that, tea-towels are the order of the day - four of them, including a Corgi one. All reasonably priced at £5.

The site also offers a wide range of activities up that part of Scotland: pony-trekking, fishing etc and also accomodation - although no prices are given. We don't imagine it will come cheap though - for rich Royal snobs only.

Liz 2 is hoping that the money raised from the site will enable her to pay for some of the upkeep of Balmoral - another indication that she is serious about making the Royal Family more attuned to modern life. She has also opened the castle up to visitors, charging £4.50 entrance for adults. This is more reasonable than the £11 Buckingham Palace costs and is likely to be better value since Balmoral is more the Queen's home than official residence [Buck Palace is in fact rather over-the-top and unwelcoming].

We don't know whether Balmoral has been opened to the public before or not, and neither Liz 2 nor her household are picking up the phone at the moment.

The only problem we have is that there isn't much to the site at the moment - all links lead to the Royal Family site, rather than offer its own content. So while Liz 2 has grasped the Internet's potential, she doesn't seem to have grasped its ability to provide large quantities of in-depth information. Nevertheless, gawd bless yer maam. ®
