BT in call centre emergency row

Can't talk - must work

An investigation has been launched into why a worker at a BT call centre in Wales wasn't allowed to take an emergency phone call from her husband.

David Bebb from Treorchy in South Wales claims he tried to contact his wife, Ann Marie, after their 10-year-old son, Sam, was rushed to hospital after opticians discovered a lump behind his eye.

But instead of being put in contact with his wife Mr Bebb was told that he couldn't speak to her until her break.

He managed to leave a message for her to get in contact with him but this was never passed on.

Eventually, Mr Bebb had to pose as a customer before he could speak to his wife about their son.

The centre - which is staffed by contract workers from recruitment outfit Manpower - is investigating the alleged incident.

Mrs Bebb told BBC Wales: "I'm a grown woman with children of my own - to be treated like that is disgusting."

It's understood Sam is recovering at home. ®
