MS wants to mashup AOL's cable plans
Will back rival bidder for AT&T business
Microsoft is looking to nobble AOL Time Warner's attempts to buy AT&T's cable business.
According to the FT, Microsoft insiders say the company is prepared to put its hand deep in its pocket to stop AOL becoming a major cable player. The paper speculates that Microsoft will team up with another bidder to foil AOL's plans.
Microsoft's moves have been prompted by the Comcast's failure to bag the AT&T business with a $52 billion bid, and fears that AOL will mess with its Microsoft's ecommerce plans if AOL dominates the US cable market. ®
