AMD shows off multiprocessing platform

Computex AMD has introduced its first multiprocessing-capable platform for one- and two-way servers and workstations at the Computex tradeshow in Taiwan.
The AMD Athlon MP processor AMD-760 MP chipset support DDR memory.
Multiprocessing workstations and servers based on the MP processor and the AMD-760 MP chipset will initially be available worldwide from more than 20 manufacturers - who've not been named yet - at frequencies of 1.2GHz and 1GHz.
The AMD Athlon MP processors are priced at $265 for 1.2GHz and $215 for 1GHz frequencies, in 1,000-unit quantities.
Tyan is first off the block with a mobo based on the chipset. Memory operation Mosel Vitelic had one on its Computex stand, as part of its 256Mb DDR display, bearing the legend "512Mb registered DDR module for server/workstation - MD 760".
Asus, Abit and Gigabit also have boards on the way.
The AMD Athlon MP processors are manufactured using AMD's 0.18-micron copper process technology at Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
AMD's press statement on the AMD-760 MP chipset says: "It consists of two chips-the AMD-762 system controller (northbridge), and the AMD-766 peripheral bus controller (southbridge). The AMD-760 MP chipset unleashes the power of DDR memory technology, which combines with other sophisticated core logic in data, memory and I/O control as well as system and power management to provide a powerful solution for server and workstation platforms. The AMD-760 MP chipset supports up to two AMD Athlon MP processors with independent 266MHz front side buses, as well as PC2100 DDR memory and AGP 4x graphics." ®
