Archdeacon suspended in child porn probe

Pics found in PC repair

A Church of England Archdeacon has been suspended following his arrest on suspicion of possession of child pornography.

Police questioned the Venerable John Marsh, Archdeacon of Blackburn, after indecent pictures were allegedly discovered on his PC, when he took it in for repairs.

Staff at the shop, which hasn't been named in early reports, contacted the police after allegedly finding porn on the clergyman's hard disk.

Marsh, a 53 year-old who is married and has two children, was questioned by police on Thursday and later released pending further enquiries.

The Diocese of Blackburn suspended Marsh over the weekend in line with guidelines defined by the "Safe from Harm" procedures. ®
