AMD Palomino to debut in notebooks
Launch to feature Nvidia's Crush chipset
AMD is still on to ship its 1GHz-plus Mobile Athlon based on the Palomino core this quarter.
Last week, DigiTimes reported that sources had claimed the part would ship in June, and now EBN has said Palomino will ship this quarter, just ahead of the desktop version of the part, in Q3.
Information leaked to EBN shows Palomino will debut at 1.3 and 1.4GHz, and support PC2100 DDR SDRAM memory in two channels, capable to transfering data at 4.2Gbps.
The Palomino launch will be accompanied by the PC version of Nvidia's Xbox chipset, aka Crush. The chipset includes a Northbridge part that merges a graphics processor - thought to be based on the GeForce 2 MX - and a memory controller, essentially putting AGP on a chip. Crush's Southbridge is based on the Xbox Media Communications Processor, and basically couples third-party audio and networking DSP designs into a single unit. ®
