Virtual interviews sort sheep from goats

UK DIY supershed B&Q has adopted a novel method of filtering out would-be job employees, the Daily Express reports today.

The company is using a virtual telephone interview process in which applicants are required to answer 50 questions about themselves over the phone. In response to questions such as: "I will report fellow employees who take merchandise that does not belong to them," grillees are invited to strongly agree (press 5 on your keypad), broadly agree (press 4), etc., etc. And if you have an axe to grind, just press 1 for "strongly disagree."

B&Q spokesperson Lorian Coutts is quoted as saying: "It is a personality-fit test and if you get past a certain score you are deemed a successful fit." You then get a proper interview, apparently.

B&Q is said to be happy with its methods, but we remain
unconvinced. ®
