Piracy judge slams ‘rip-off’ games software

ELSPA not amused

Blimey. A UK judge attacked 'rip-off' games software prices, when sentencing two pirates, Silicon.com
reports.

In sentencing the pair, Judge Bray said: "I have not closed my eyes to the fact that the retailers and publishers are grossly overcharging the general public."

In other words, Radomir Lukic (two and a half years in prison) and Kevin Bailey (150 hours community service) have got off pretty lightly.

Lukic and Bailey were convicted of piracy and fraud offences at Leicester Crown Court, following a joint investigation between BT, Telewest and ELSPA, the games industry anti-piracy group, and the NCIS.

The pair were selling Playstation games at five quid a pop, and also 'clipped' pre-paid mobile phones.

Putting salt into the wound, Judge Bray said that selling hooky mobile phones was much worse than selling pirated software, ELSPA told Silicon.com. Unsurprisingly, the organisation is not happy with the judge's 'ill-informed' comments. ®
