Rambus, the paper trail and the ‘secret global DRAM takeover plan’

Electronic News scoop

At times, the US judicial system can be a wonderful thing, especially if you are a resourceful journalist like Steven Fyffe, of Electronic News.

His newspaper went to the US District Court of San Jose to obtain the release of sealed documents lodged with the court by Rambus and Hyundai in advance of their patent infringement dispute. Yesterday a judge gave the go-ahead to release the documents.

And explosive reading they make too. There is all the appearance of a paper trail suggesting that Rambus "deliberately broke the rules of the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) as part of a secret plan to take over the global DRAM intellectual property business".

You can read the Electronic News article in full here.

And here is Rambus' press statement in response. The company says it will not comment on specific documents and adds: "It is irresponsible and misleading to view any document out of context and without seeing all the evidence." It also expressses confidence that it will win in court. ®
