Sony splashes out $3m on UK bluetooth chip firm

Hints of further collaboration

Cambridge Silicon Radio, the UK chip manufacturer, has managed to raise $45 million in its latest round of funding, with more than $3million from electronics giant, Sony.

CSR, an unlisted company, has not disclosed the full details of the contribution. However, according to The Guardian, it said that it was part of a final wave of $8 million in its third round of funding.

The company said it would use the cash raised to develop its single chip version of Bluetooth. It would not say whether it had any joint projects with Sony in the pipeline, but did hint that there might be some collaboration in the future.

Other investors include ARM, Compaq, Phillips and Intel Capital. ®
