Bush 2k email guru gets transition team gig

'Permissions-based' email saved from privacyniks?

The CEO of ClickAction, the company responsible for the email side of the Bush presidential campaign, has been rewarded by being appointed to the Department of Commerce Transition Advisory Board. George Slayton joins several other technology execs in an advisory capacity for the incoming administration, and will no doubt be in a good position to defend the corner of "permissions-based email marketing" outfits like ClickAction against the privacyniks.

In Austin today Bush is hosting an Economic Forum where Slayton and the other IT annointeds will be able to guide help form the future Presidents thinking on the business.

According to ClickAction, Bush is due to discuss "issues of direct relevance to the high tech industry with a small group of high tech industry leaders." Who these people are and how they've been sifted out of the 440 IT Bush endorsers from the campaign isn't immediately clear, but we'd expect Mikey Dell, who's local, and maybe John Chambers of Cisco, Barrett from Intel and McNealy from Sun to have a good shot at it. Scottie's views on what you do with Microsoft being more than a little divergent, however, it might be better to shove him straight back in the silo.

ClickAction, Reg readers will recall, contrived to accidentally spam The Register during the campaign, appointing us unilaterally to the Dubya eChampions team, and urging us to distribute large quantities of pro-Bush email. This was subsequently followed up by full-blooded spammers, who grabbed the ball and started spamming the world with aforementioned emails. ®
