Tech Data pumps out the profits

Tech Data, the world's number two computer products distie, delivered a record Q3, with net income up 43 per cent and sales 20 per cent higher than the same period last year.

For the three months to October 31, 2000. net income was $47.2 million (1999: $33 million). Sales were $5.2bn (1999: $4.3 billion).

Sales were up 31 per cent in the US and 23 per cent in Europe "on a local currency basis". The rest of the world saw 15 per cent sales growth. The product split shows networking sales up 30 per cent, peripherals (+ 23 per cent) system sales (+21 per cent). However software sales, accounting for 11 per cent of turnover, were flat during the quarter. Peripherals represent 45 per cent of total sales, systems 27 systems and networking 17 per cent. Ecommerce sales is now on a run rate of $5bn a year.

Tech Data forecasts sales of $5.2bn to $5.3 bn in Q4 and sales of $20.3bn to $20.4 billion for the full fiscal year.



The Official Receiver wound up the wrong Rhodium last week, CRN UK reports. The DTI body meant to wind up Rhodium plc, a Sheffield-based developer of encryption technology. But because of a 'technicality, it ended up having Rhodium PLC, a newly formed maker of motherboards, wound up by the High Court instead.




Northamber has hired Robin Falconer, former retail boss at Datrontech, and MD of the company when it collapsed, to run its retail division.




Creative Labs has signed Avnet as its third OEM distributor, joining Actebis and Microtronica. ®
