Delinquent hackers target games site

Poetasters score with rhyming couplets

Games developer Microprose - famous for such simulation titles as GrandPrix 3 - has had its Web site defaced

The Delinquent Hacking Organisation (dhc) - which already boasts some 390 scalps - has claimed responsibility for the act of vandalism.

Curiously, instead of marking their effort with a grotesque picture or some inexplicable gibberish, the delinquents attempted a more literary sign-off, leaving behind this tale of angst.

I LAY DOWN.

I lay down and cry,
today I'd like to die.
My feelings weren't hurt,
but they're already always in the dirt.

I never thought I could feel this way,
and now I'm here, I don't know what to say.
Winding roads leading me to the same place,
its What to do in my case.

I feel like I'll never be enough,
not enough me, not enough stuff.
I feel self-centered, and fat,
I'm actually skinny, but the mind is tough.

Running away never works they say.

Microprose.com was bought by Hasbro Interactive some 18 months ago and is now one of the company's key brands.

A spokeswoman for Hasbro told The Reg: "I don't know how long it's been like this - we only found out about it this morning."

We can help Kieren McCarthy writes. For three days, the site featured nothing but a blue screen and poem by hacker DHC (with a Firefly pen name?). Obviously, the tech-heads are unavailable at weekends.

We saw the hacked site while looking through Attrition on Friday for a different hack and felt it best not to overdo matters. However, seeing as the company was unable to sort it out until past lunchtime today, we've had a number of readers pointing it out to us. Most, it must be said, were interested by the poetry.

Is this a new movement? Do we have sensitive, creative hackers in our midsts? Is the hacker the modern artist? Well, judging from the poem, no. There is obviously a tortured soul out there, but poetry ain't his forte.

What's more, he didn't manage to get the whole poem out. No, you need to go to a different hack the day before for that. Dominio Internet ran the whole text. But hang on, our budding Byron, is at it again. On Saturday, he hacked the California Department of Transportation, where he showcased his latest creation entitled Tomorrow. His standard hadn't slipped. But then neither had it risen.

We are considering sending them to an English professor (or perhaps a child psychologist) to see what can be made of them.

Still, at least poetry is a step up from "Fuk U KC!!!!! i'M tHe gReATest" stuff we normally see. ®
