Patent granted for PC eyestrain glasses
We can see clearly now the strain has gone...
A US patent has been granted to Eyecity for glasses designed to reduce eyestrain from staring at a computer screen all day long.
The American Optometric Association (AOA) estimates that 60 million people are affected by computer eyestrain, or Computer Vision Syndrome, which causes eyestrain, blurred vision, headaches and dry eyes. The AOA says that the growing number of computer literate children will mean the syndrome will become more significant.
The glasses, called EyeTools, use a special lens that minimises the glare and equalises ambient light, the company says, including light from windows and overhead lighting. This, it seems, means that the computer user can focus more clearly and will not strain the old eyeballs.
Along with its other patents for glare reducing lenses, Eyecity hopes that this will help it grab a slice of the $19.5 billion US optical market.
We hope that the lenses have a pinkish hue to them so that users can truly look at the world through their rose-tinted spectacles. ®
